App Design

Student work

Brief
The goal was to produce a creative digital product that presented between five and eight GLAM objects to a public audience. The objects needed to be linked together in some way and the overall output had to engage with the curatorial theory that 'Museums are not neutral'.
My contribution
I chose to design an app (a high-fidelity prototype) mostly as an excuse to get better at Figma and actual app design, not just visuals.
Step one was research. I went down a museum objects rabbit hole and landed on something that genuinely bugged me: how many artefacts sitting in museums today were acquired in ways that wouldn't hold up by today's legal standards. It fit the brief perfectly. I picked five objects, a couple of household names, a couple flying under the radar, and built the whole app around them.
Then came the fun part: naming it, designing a logo, and playing with colour. Priceless objects deserved a palette that felt priceless too, so I went with high contrast black and white and a dark yellow accent, paired with sharp, high quality imagery, so viewers would slow down and take the topic seriously.
Building the actual prototype taught me more about Figma components and interactions than I expected going in. I built a dropdown with its own overlay for the 'articles' section, made the search bar fully clickable, and linked every page together, so you can hit 'next' after an article or just scroll through the whole thing horizontally.
